Building My Workroom

by Marcie on February 5, 2012

I’m back from my hiatus and ready to get busy. Today we moved my new embroidery machine into my new digs. We have measured all of my tables, desks and machine and have a floor plan that hubs worked up on graph paper… complete with cut-out furniture. Playing around with the placement on paper will save a lot of muscle, sweat & tears. My hope is to have the bulk of my good junk supplies moved into that space tomorrow and then get all of the small stuff stocked  this coming week.

I’m getting very excited about it all. I have purchased some thread (48 cones) and several types of blanks (items used for embroidery work) in anticipation of using the machine.

I’m going to use my beast of a desk for the actual office portion of my business. It is a 72″ x 72″ glass top desk that we got for a song a few years back.

I have 2 cubicle storage units that are 36″ x 36″. I am going to lie a door or a countertop flat on the top for a work table. I’m excited to have something tall enough that I won’t kill my back as I cut or work. It will double as a sewing table as well. We plan to make mine a little longer and attach a surge strip under it so I can use it for all sorts of  crafts, sewing, cutting or display. I’ll also attach yard sticks on either side as well. I have ALWAYS wanted a cutting table that didn’t kill my back that was not $1000.

The area where the embroidery machine will go will be home to the machine, a high-boy desk and a long folding table to do my hooping. I have a table for my serger as well.

I most of all hope that the floor plan we put together will have a nice work flow. I think it will, but using it will tell the full story.  I have one last thing I hope to get done that is different. I want to hang some outdoor trellis from the ceiling via some chain!!!! When I need to hang something, that will be the answer. I have some over the door storage I will be using for the ironing board and iron.

Pictures? If I can remember to take pictures as we progress, I’ll post them. YIPPEE! A dream of a lifetime. :)
